WHO WE ARE

Legal Management Resources LLC ("LMR") provides consulting services and other resources to support persons in positions of leadership in law firms and related organizations throughout the world.  Built around the 40+ years of experience of our Principal, James W. Jones, LMR frequently works with law firms and their leaders on issues of strategy, governance, compensation, succession planning, ancillary business, and risk management.  

Past clients have ranged from small and mid-sized organizations to some of the world's largest global law firms.  They have included firms in the U.S. and Canada, as well as in Latin America, Asia, Europe, and Australia.

WHAT WE DO

LMR offers clients a range of management consulting services to deal with mission critical questions, particularly focused around issues of strategy, governance, compensation, succession planning, ancillary business, and risk management.  Typical past client engagements have included:

  • Assisting two AmLaw 100 firms conceptualize and implement a process of succession planning to assist in the transition of senior firm leadership;
  • Assisting on issues of cultural integration in a large firm that recently completed a major cross-border merger;
  • Assisting a global law firm in a process of identifying and articulating its cross-cultural core values;
  • Assisting two major non-U.S. capital markets firms in the complete redesign of their partner compensation systems;
  • Assisting two major national firms assess the feasibility of restructuring their relationships with ancillary businesses; and
  • Assisting a major non-U.S. law firm in the initiation of a strategic planning process to re-orient the firm's focus and to strengthen its competitive position.

Jones, is also a frequent speaker at law firm partner retreats, executive and policy committee meetings, strategic planning sessions, and the like on a broad range of management topics impacting law firms, including issues of leadership development.  Mr. Jones is also a frequent speaker at law schools and workshops and conferences of organizations related to the legal profession on topics ranging from the state of the legal market to future trends in the legal profession.  In recent years, he has made major presentations at meetings of the Association of Legal Administrators, the National Association for Law Placement, the Law School Admission Council, the Association of American Law Schools, the Council of Chief Justices, and the International Legal Technology Association.

LMR also operates two roundtables focused on law firm risk management issues, one for large firms and one for mid-sized firms.
